Salzburg Castle

Salzburg The mighty castle that seems to reign on its wooded height is one of Germany's biggest. Even though it has been reconstructed (different Roman, Gothic, and Renaissance elements give proof of it), it has never been destroyed and can still be admired in its entirety.

Before the 12th century the castle was used as a place to hide from the enemy. Afterwards, it was remodeled by the royal bishops from Würzburg. The reason was the creation of an administrative center for the nearby salt district. The castle was also used for military purposes: it was to protect the Count von Henneberg, who, coming from Thüringisch-Franken, wanted to expand his territory southwards.

From inside the walls you can distinguish several smaller, individual castles, which are proof of the heir culture that existed in the Salzburg.
